Our decentralized team works across multiple countries and time zones to deliver outstanding service to our CandidPro providers while staying connected, collaborative, and innovative. Here’s how our distributed teams work as one to make it all happen.
From one apartment to hundreds of offices
Our story began in a small New York City apartment, where collaboration was naturally encouraged by tight quarters and an agile startup mentality. Over the years, we expanded, opening labs and offices in Ohio, a multi-floor headquarters in NYC, and research facilities in Silicon Valley. Today, we’re a little leaner, operating a massive, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Tijuana, Mexico, a treatment planning facility in Costa Rica, and hundreds of at-home offices across the US and Canada.
Many locations, one motivation
Even though our team is decentralized, we’re united by one mission: making high-quality clear aligner care more accessible and affordable for dentists and their patients. Our team understands the life-changing benefits of clear aligner therapy—many of us from first-hand experience. That understanding motivates us to work tirelessly to empower our providers with everything they need to approach orthodontic care with confidence.
A culture of collaborative candor
To deliver our best to our providers, we encourage our team to “Embrace Candor,” which is one of our core values. We believe that collaboration thrives in an environment where employees can deliver respectful feedback, ask questions, and bring their genuine personality to work every day.
“Our team is very direct,” says Mohit Bahel, our Chief Strategy Officer who’s experienced nearly every phase of the company’s growth. “People here ask for feedback, allow it to be freely given, and consider it when received.”
Candid collaboration gets clinical
Our emphasis on collaboration extends to our clinical teams, too. We regularly host company-wide, virtual “Ask the Ortho” sessions with our CandidPro Orthodontists to hear about their experiences working with our providers on their case setups.
“Hearing directly from our top clinical experts has helped me understand the needs of our providers on a deeper level,” says John Bergholz, Brand Copywriting Manager.. “It’s a great way to step into their mindset and reassess how we can best serve their needs.”
Working as one with connected technology
Since our team is distributed across many offices and locations, using connected technology is an important part of our day-to-day. We use tools like Slack, Zendesk, Zoom, and shared documentation platforms to stay visible and stay connected—even when we’re not in the same room.
“Being remote, having a lot of communication via Slack and across platforms helps with visibility to keep patients on track,” noted a recent hire who recently went through our onboarding process.
We also plan intentional moments for connection, including cross-functional one-on-ones, cross-functional team sessions, and casual relationship-building “coffee chats.”
“You have to be deliberate when there are no water cooler conversations,” says Mohit. “So we created more scheduled moments for meaningful connection.”
Making time for face time
From time-to-time, we give our teams the opportunity to gather in person to connect, plan, and collaborate face-to-face. Small gatherings may look like our employees based in New York meeting up for a day of in-person work. Larger events, like our National Sales Meeting, could bring in employees and providers from across the country for multi-day training and team building.
Because we spend most of our time communicating behind screens, these moments for in-person collaboration are all the more important and meaningful.
“Having dentists, orthodontists, strategic partners, and co-workers in the same room at our National Sales Meeting was just incredible,” says Dr. Brian Gray, Chief Dental Officer. “Learning together helps us connect our providers’ experiences to our product roadmap and beyond. We love hearing their feedback, and they appreciate being heard.”
