Case study: From five clear aligner cases to thirty-seven with CandidPro and Hygiene Mastery

When Alex Cagle-Sanchez, a CandidPro Account Executive, invited Dr. Gurvinderjit Bhullar and the team at Napa Valley Dental Group to the Hygiene Mastery event, he wasn’t sure what the outcome would be. 

Dr. Bhullar wound up bringing thirteen members of his team. They quietly took notes. Then their production exploded. Here’s how they did it. 

A solid foundation

Napa Valley Dental Group joined CandidPro in January 2025. They had offered aligners with other companies previously and were already self-sufficient. A typical month would see three to five new aligner patients. They had a system that worked well.

After joining CandidPro, Dr. Bhullar wanted to push the envelope. When they had the opportunity to attend a Hygiene Mastery session, he made sure to bring his office manager, five hygienists, and several other team members. 

“They came to play,” says Cagle-Sanchez. “They were all engaged throughout the session. Having the team on board and a unit can make all the difference, and their results are proof of that.”

Productive clinical conversations 

One of the biggest shifts that came out of Hygiene Mastery was how the team talked about clear aligners with patients. Dr. Bhullar’s team traditionally led with cosmetic benefits. Hygiene Mastery taught them how to reframe clear aligners in context with the patient’s overall health. 

After attending the training, the team’s hygienists began documenting malocclusion by taking intraoral photos that captured crowding, wear, chipping, and recession. They took these photos before cleanings, so patients could see how their malocclusion was contributing to plaque accumulation. They also offered affordable financing options to help more patients access care. 

Finally, they used CandidPro's Bite Health Evaluation as a handoff tool to Dr. Bhullar, who would then enter the room and deliver a clear, clinical message. 

"We focused on how malocclusions are causing other dental issues,” explains Dr. Bhullar. ”When they understand that correcting malocclusion will help with their oral health down the line, the benefit of orthodontics is clear."

What Hygiene Mastery makes possible

Setting and exceeding goals

Hygiene Mastery closed off their session with Dr. Bhullar by asking every attending practice to stand up and declare a monthly case goal. Napa Valley Dental Group set theirs at ten. 

They nearly quadrupled it.

After the session, Cagle-Sanchez watched their numbers rise consistently over the month. One or two cases every day. When they hit twenty-seven, he texted Dr. Bhullar.

“Are you going for thirty?”

“Yeah, we’re going to do thirty.”

By month’s end, thirty cases had treatment plans and were on their way to production. Seven more closed.

Simple changes for outstanding results

The secret to Dr. Bhullar’s success isn’t complicated. He engaged his full team in a new initiative. They went all-in on implementing what they learned. They offered financing. And they worked as a team to bring it all together. 

It didn’t happen overnight. Dr. Bhullar noted that there were growing pains as they updated their patient workflows. But, after a few weeks, their new approach was second nature.
